Day 58 - Monday 9th August: Short swim

Swim: 400 metres
Time: 15 minutes

I managed to forget my goggles this evening, so even though I remembered my new "Zoggs" nose clip (which I hope will be more snugly fitting than my old "Speedo" one), I was not properly prepared for my swim. Oh well, I was there - I'd just have to see how I got on. The first few lengths were ok, and if anything I was swimming faster as I didn't like having my face under water. However after ten lengths I could tell I was struggling.

I switched from crawl to breaststroke to save my eyes, but I'm rubbish at breaststroke, so tried alternating 1 length of each, and after three of each was still really struggling with my eyes. Not so much the stinging (the chlorine wasn't that strong), but with my breathing. I don't know why not being able to see comfortably made breathing less comfortable too?

So I gave up after 16 lengths, got showered and dressed, and when I got in my car I noticed how red and bloodshot my eyes had become in just 15 minutes. I suspect if I'd persevered to my usual 40 lengths, that I'd have been in danger of not being able to see to drive home safely!

Running 13.1 miles in memory of Carl

I ran the Silverstone Half Marathon on 15th March 2009. I managed the 13.1 mile course in 2 hours and 4 minutes. Not a bad effort for my first Half Marathon! I returned in 2010 to run it in 1 hour 54 minutes, and plan to do it again in 2011. I decided to run this in aid of The PSC Trust and PSC Support in memory of my brother Carl, who died from liver failure in November 1997. If you'd like to sponsor me for this - please email me at pscrun@ulen.me.uk PSC Trust
