Juice vs. Smoothies

I've decided that I'd like to drink more carrot juice¹, so want a reasonably powerful liquidiser because the handheld jobbie we use for bananas won't be up to the job.

I need to research the blenders, smoothie makers and juicers, comparing the merits of making a smoothie (which contains all the fruit) compared with a juicer (which separates the juice from the pulp).

My wonderful wife suggested getting one of these, as promoted on the website:
Will It Blend?

Hmm, perhaps that's a bit too powerful, even for my needs!!

¹ Does anyone know what "Horse carrots" are? Wantage market sells them by the sackload, and it would be a very cheap way to buy carrots in bulk. Are they suitable for human consumption?

Horse carrots are big, irregularly shaped orange carrots, sometimes with splits in them. Horse carrots tend to be older and more fibrous, making them good for long cooking, as in soups or stews.Maybe not so good for juicing?

Running 13.1 miles in memory of Carl

I ran the Silverstone Half Marathon on 15th March 2009. I managed the 13.1 mile course in 2 hours and 4 minutes. Not a bad effort for my first Half Marathon! I returned in 2010 to run it in 1 hour 54 minutes, and plan to do it again in 2011. I decided to run this in aid of The PSC Trust and PSC Support in memory of my brother Carl, who died from liver failure in November 1997. If you'd like to sponsor me for this - please email me at pscrun@ulen.me.uk PSC Trust
