A run of four halves

Distance: 2 miles
Time: 18m14s
Mile 1 - 9m07s
Mile 2 - 9m07s

There was an odd symmetry to my run today. The first mile out took 9 minutes and 7 seconds, which was 4m24s for the first half mile, and 4m43s for the second half. Having run the first mile a little quicker than I had hoped, wanting to pace myself evenly for the 2 miles, I set off on the second lap more slowly, taking 4m43s to do the third half mile. So I was somewhat surprised that I managed the last half mile in 4m24s, to finish the second mile in 9 minutes and 7 seconds - matching the time with the first lap exactly! I didn't go all out in the last half mile to try to improve my pace, the only thing I did consciously do was lengthen my stride for the last hundred yards or so.

Another improvement I've made recently is to have lost some weight. I'm now down to 13st 11lb, so I've lost half a stone in the last couple of months. The green tea I'm drinking now really is helping increase my metabolism and burn off some fat. And having shifted a few pounds should help me to run and cycle faster, helping me get fitter.

Running 13.1 miles in memory of Carl

I ran the Silverstone Half Marathon on 15th March 2009. I managed the 13.1 mile course in 2 hours and 4 minutes. Not a bad effort for my first Half Marathon! I returned in 2010 to run it in 1 hour 54 minutes, and plan to do it again in 2011. I decided to run this in aid of The PSC Trust and PSC Support in memory of my brother Carl, who died from liver failure in November 1997. If you'd like to sponsor me for this - please email me at pscrun@ulen.me.uk PSC Trust
